This is the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the great Civil War battle. At a memorial service later in 1863, Abraham Lincoln spoke a few words in his incomparable Gettysburg Address, a speech memorized by school children for generations, which possibly made the famous and sad battle even more well-known. Now is your chance to visit the place where it all happened, during this anniversary year.
Optional tours include a Saturday visit to the Visitors Center and bus tour of the battlefield with a guide. For those who arrive on Thursday, or Friday morning, there is a Friday tour to the Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine and grounds (including Miracles Amid the Fire Storm covering the impact of the Civil War) followed by a visit to the Grotto with a Mass at the chapel, then dinner at a local historic Inn.
